American Apparitions: The Blessed Virgin Mary, Guadalupe, Necedah, and Bayside

This four-week live Zoom seminar July 7-July 25, 2026 (6pm - 8pm EDT) examines three major Marian apparition traditions in the Americas: Our Lady of Guadalupe (1531), Necedah (Wisconsin, 1949–1950), and Our Lady of the Roses Shrine (1970–1995). We will engage primary sources, Church statements, scholarly analyses, and documentaries. The course explores Catholic discernment procedures and the broader cultural impact of these events. Guadalupe became central to American Catholicism, while Necedah and Bayside remain controversial, with Bayside formally condemned by the Diocese of Brooklyn. Special attention is given to Necedah and Bayside’s reported connections to UFO phenomena. Readings include Catholic, psychological, sociological, and ufological perspectives.
